Chris is my legal name. Malola is my spiritual name.
What does “Malola” mean?
It means “Beloved of the Goddess Lakshmi”.
I was born in 1991. That should give you a general idea without my age having to update this every year.
White American of possible French, English, and Irish descent.
What do you do?
When I’m not trying to come up with topics to write about, I’m procrastinating on an important assignment. AKA, I’m currently a graduate student/seminarian who is pursuing an MDiv with a concentration in Education. I hope to one day pursue a PhD in Comparative Theology or in Religious Studies.
Otherwise I love to read, waste time on the internet, play video games, and watch films in what little free time I have. The most recent game I finished was Bioshock: Infinite.
What is your religion?
I’m a western adoptee of Hinduism. I was given diksha/upanayana as a Sri Vaishnava, but have since drifted into a more Shakta practice with a bigger emphasis on philosophy.
But you’re white. Aren’t you really just a part of ISKCON?
Who is your Ishta-Deva?
Sri Lakshmi-Narasimha, who is also my namesake. I also love Sri Lakshmi herself and devas like Ganesha, Hanuman, and Shiva.
Favorite devotions or rituals?
I love to watch and perform abhishekam, Upachara puja, sing aarti, and chant a multitude of mantras on my Japa beads.
I suppose contemplation and scripture reading are what I do the most.
Are you gay?
What are you politically?
It’s in the blog title. 😉
But for real, I call myself a “conservative” for the sake of simplicity. In the US, I definitely veer to the right, but elsewhere in the world I would probably be a centrist.
- I’m a Social Libertarian. As long as people aren’t bringing harm to others, or forcing people to do things what they don’t want to do, then I don’t care what people do in their personal lives. Wanna marry a dude or do some weird fetish in the privacy of your own home? Go for it. Just don’t expect others to automatically support it or care.
- I’m a Cultural Conservative. I’m a bit of a western and civil nationalist. For all it’s faults, I’m happy to have been born in the west and western culture should be preserved. I support immigration, but not open borders. I recognize religion’s role in the west and I think it should be honored, but I also support separation of church and state. Freedom of speech, assembly, press, and religion are the cornerstones of the US and should remain so.
- I’m an Economic Centrist. The fact is, there is no one size fits all solution to the economy. I support the free market and all it has to offer. That being said, some markets do require some regulation. Regulation for the sake thereof is not desirable, but neither is a complete laissez faire approach. There needs to be a balance.
Side note: No I’m not a Republican and I didn’t vote for Trump. Personally, I can barely stand the man and think the Trump Train™ was doomed from the start. Still, watching the world burn can be amusing.
You can’t be gay and conservative!!!
Why do you hate women/minorities/the poor/other LGBT you bigot?
